MAKERS 101 Ltd is a project-based initiative led by Peter Deckers and Hilda Gascard, dedicated to advancing contemporary jewellery in Aotearoa New Zealand through national and international engagement.
M101 provides strategic infrastructure for the sector—managing planning, research, logistics, budgeting, communications, digital platforms, exhibitions, professional development, and archiving. The company actively seeks opportunities, nurtures talent, and sustains networks that strengthen the field.
Working in partnership with artists, experts, educationalists, funders, galleries and institutions—including support from Creative New Zealand—M101 delivers key sector projects such as the HANDSHAKE project initiative, the Aotearoa Jewellery Triennial, Upskill projects, and the Aotearoa Jewellery website.

New Biennials
M101 also co-leads two new biennial programmes that expand the landscape for contemporary jewellery in Aotearoa:
• Jewellery LAB Biennial – A process-led exhibition and professional development initiative guided by Māia—courage, boldness, and creative risk. Open to artists at any stage, the programme culminates in the Loose and Brave exhibition at The National (Ōtautahi Christchurch) in 2026.

• Suter Jewellery Biennial – A curatorial-led exhibition launching in 2027 as part of Nelson Jewellery Week. Hosted by The Suter Art Gallery Te Aratoi o Whakatū, this biennial invites curators to shape ambitious, sector-defining exhibitions.

M101 is committed to fostering a resilient, inclusive, and globally connected jewellery community—one that values experimentation, dialogue, and legacy.

MAKERS 101 Ltd operates with partnership support (e.g., fundraising, sponsorship, CNZ, experts, and artists) to deliver the exhibition and development programmes as well as the Aotearoa Jewellery website.
