Nadine Smith

Artist statement:

A conscious vision of material waste reborn
We have lost our way
We are all at sea

Bio:

Nadine Smith is a Wellington based artist with an Applied Arts Degree from Whitireia Polytechnic. Her work is held in private and public collections in New Zealand and overseas. She is a member of Occupation Artist, participated in the
Handshake 4 mentorship programme and was a founding member of The See Here Gallery.

Nadine has a passion for people, places, and the great outdoors. A background in nursing and growing concerns for our environment inform her interdisciplinary practice. Pieces often reference the fragility of life and her relationship with an
increasingly chaotic world.

Poles apart from their initial function, Nadine breathes a sense of life back into the discarded in her whimsical creations. Her innovative use of materials creates a tension between the familiar and the unknown. Dig deeper and the inner child
at play is considering the materiality of human consumption and what this means for our planet. Objects that come from dark and light places to contemplate our shared humanity.
