Artist statement:

Lightning began appearing in my work a few years ago. Its jagged edge simultaneously moving up
and down in mother-of-pearl. Contemplations on that infamous spark of creativity. Karen Barad (theoretical physicist) poe1cally refers to lightning as being here, there, everywhere and nowhere.
The phenomenon barely contained. Lightning only occurs when a charged cloud comes into relationship with an object. It’s the object that sends the upward arc first and is met by the downward response.
That jagged line claims space in an electrical act of collaboration.
Beware. Here lives power.

Bio:

My educational and work background began in the arts with a Bachelor in Art History from Canterbury University, then circled into Humanities working as an Occupational Therapist in Aotearoa and the wider Pacific region, before looping back around into the arts with a degree in Arts and Media from NMIT.  I was the recipient of the Jens Hansens Excellence award for my final year jewellery exchange project, Possession, 2016 which was based on the philosophy ‘we love objects to think with and we think with objects we love’.  Jewellery that talks about the social connection between bodies and objects continues to fascinate me with acts of collaboration being at the heart of my practice.

After completing my Bachelor of Arts and Media in 2016, I was accepted into the contemporary jewellery mentorship programme, The Handshake Project.  My mentor was London-based sculptor Francis Upritchard.
