LOCKDOWN II, 2023

Fran Carter

Artist statement:

LOCKDOWN II.
The world around us silently rages and ravages
Bodies, lungs, and livelihoods.
But also we are safe, if not divided
Arms raised and shovels digging underground.
Stay home, stay regulated, and take prescribed daily exercise
Zoom, zoom, zoom!
Set your backdrop, pretend you’re somewhere else
Though nothing seems better than anywhere but here.
Lock the door on your stagnating thoughts and news reports
Head for the hills, avoiding the ever present boogie man lurking in the wake of a passing stranger
Ground your feet on the forest floor
…and breathe
